Amazon and Caribbean Cruise

Pitons

The Journey

Four of us have been on many adventures and cruises together. In this slide presentation we show some interesting scenes and events of our cruise in the Amazon region of Brazil and stops at several islands in the Caribbean.

Near Manaus we saw the "meeting of the waters", where the clear Rio Negro joins the murky Amazon River. In Parintins we enjoyed a dazzling Boi Bumba performance. Then near Santarém we fished for piranha.

Two days sailing down the Amazon River into the Atlantic Ocean brought us to French Guiana and the Îles du Salut, where we climbed Île Royale to view Devil's Island. Then we rode a vintage railroad train and watched sugar cane processing in Barbados, saw sights in Saint Lucia, had a delightful helicopter flight around Antigua, and we ended the cruise in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

About our trip

Our tour with Viking Cruises started with a charter flight from Miami to Manaus, Brazil, where we boarded the ship Viking Sea. Sailing a thousand miles down the wide Amazon River was like sailing on a calm lake. We flew home from Puerto Rico.
